MR Angiography of Neck Vessels

MR angiography (MRA) of the neck vessels is a non-invasive imaging technique used to evaluate the carotid and vertebral arteries supplying the brain.

Impaired blood flow in these vessels may increase the risk of cerebral ischemia and stroke.

Indications

  • headache and dizziness;
  • tinnitus;
  • hearing or vision impairment;
  • visual disturbances;
  • loss of consciousness;
  • coordination or memory problems;
  • limb numbness or weakness;
  • neck trauma.

Conditions Detected

  • aneurysms;
  • arteriovenous malformations;
  • arterial stenosis or occlusion;
  • arterial dissection;
  • atherosclerosis;
  • external compression by tumors;
  • congenital vascular anomalies;
  • thrombosis and embolism;
  • vasculitis.

MRA of the neck is often performed together with cerebral MRA for comprehensive cerebrovascular assessment.
